When Did Television Come To India?
Television in India first came under experimental transmission on 15 September 1959 in Delhi. The September 1961 premiere of Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color marked a turning point in television history. The news bulletin started in India in 1965 and started airing for 1 hour daily. In the year 1972, TV services were started in Mumbai. Then in 1975 TV stations were established in Kolkata, Chennai, Srinagar, Amritsar, and Lucknow.
