Veteran Actor Junior Mehmood Succumbs to Stomach Cancer at 67

Renowned actor Naeem Sayyed, popularly known as Junior Mehmood, passed away at his residence in Khar, Mumbai, on Friday, losing his battle with stomach cancer at the age of 67. The actor’s family confirmed his demise and announced that his funeral is scheduled for today at Santacruz Kabrastan.

Junior Mehmood, who began his film journey as a child artist with “Mohabbat Zindagi Hai” in 1966, left an indelible mark on the Indian film industry. His extensive filmography includes notable titles such as “Naunihal,” “Caravan,” “Haathi Mere Saathi,” “Mera Naam Joker,” “Suhaag Raat,” “Brahmachari,” “Kati Patang,” “Hare Raama Hare Krishna,” “Geet Gaata Chal,” “Imaandaar,” “Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri,” “Aaj Ka Arjun,” “Gurudev,” “Chhote Sarkar,” and “Judaai.”

Junior Mehmood briefly ventured into television with appearances in shows like “Pyaar Ka Dard Hai,” “Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara,” and “Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka.” Additionally, he showcased his versatility by producing and directing several Marathi movies.

The late comedy icon Mehmood bestowed the screen name Junior Mehmood upon Naeem Sayyed after their collaboration in the 1968 film “Suhaag Raat.” His son, Husnain, revealed that the family learned about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. Despite the recommendation from Tata Memorial Hospital for home care due to the advanced stage of cancer, Junior Mehmood fought bravely until his passing.

Junior Mehmood is survived by his wife, Lata, and two sons. His contributions to the entertainment industry will be remembered as fans and colleagues bid farewell to this veteran actor.
