Teenager from Michigan Slingshot Saved Sister, 8, from Suspected Kidnapper Speaks Out

At his family’s house in Alpena Township, Michigan, 13-year-old Owen Burns claimed he was playing video games when he heard his younger sister cry.

The Michigan adolescent who allegedly prevented his 8-year-old sister’s attempted kidnapping is describing the actions he took to save her.

Owen Burns said he was playing computer games at his family’s Alpena Township, Michigan home on Wednesday when he heard the young girl scream for help while mushroom-hunting in their backyard.

He claimed that at first he didn’t pay it any mind, but that “the second time, she screams again like 10 seconds later, and I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’” 13, said Owen, to the source.

On May 10, according to Owen, he saw the suspect—a 17-year-old male—trying to snatch her from the premises.

He was clutching her on his chest as she had her mouth shut. The quick-witted adolescent, who has been hailed a hero, said on Thursday on Good Morning America, “My sister kicked him and he started racing after her.

“I get my slingshot, got a marble and a rock then I shot [the suspect] three times in the head and chest,” Owen added.

The brother and sister then contacted their mother, who then dialled 911 while they were still at home alone.

The suspect ran away to a neighbouring gas station, according to a press statement from the Michigan State Police. Due to his advanced age, his name won’t be released, but according to the authorities, he showed clear symptoms of head and chest injuries consistent with a slingshot attack.

The siblings’ father, Andrew Burns, told GMA that “once it all set in, it kind of hit pretty hard.” Because the conclusion might have been very different. The suspect has been charged as an adult with attempted child enticement/kidnapping, attempted assault, and assault and battery, according to the police. A $150,000 bond was set for him.
