Satya Nadella Announces Sam Altman’s Inclusion at Microsoft; Greg Brockman to Lead New Advanced AI Research Team

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that Sam Altman, ousted as the chief executive officer, has officially joined Microsoft. Alongside Altman, Greg Brockman will also be part of Microsoft, heading a newly formed advanced AI research team.

Nadella shared the news on X, stating, “We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners.”

Expressing excitement about the addition of Altman and Brockman to Microsoft, Nadella stated, “We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success.” Microsoft, having invested billions in OpenAI, has integrated the company’s technology into various offerings, including Bing.

Earlier on the same day, OpenAI appointed Emmett Shear, the former chief of Twitch, as the new CEO, despite calls from investors to reinstate Altman. Altman was removed by OpenAI, citing a lack of confidence in his leadership.

In response to Altman’s departure, the OpenAI board expressed gratitude for his contributions but deemed new leadership necessary for the future of the Microsoft-backed AI firm.
