What More You Need to Know About Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ New Song?

‘Lift Me Up,’ a homage to Chadwick Boseman, is Rihanna’s first new upcoming soundtrack since her 2016 album Anti.
The nine-time Grammy Award winner, 34, dropped her latest track ‘Lift Me Up’ at midnight on Friday, her first new single.
The title track featured on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever theme song and serves as a homage to the late entertainer Chadwick Boseman. At the age of 43, the Black Panther actor passed away from colon cancer in August 2020.
Rihanna hyped the song earlier throughout the week and officially confirmed its worldwide release accompanied by a black-and-white picture on Thursday.
‘Lift Me Up’: The Emotional Ballad

The emotional melody was composed to honor Chadwick Boseman’s legacy and his life as T’Challa/Black Panther before his death in 2020.
In the heartfelt chorus, Rihanna starts singing, “Lift me up / Hold me down / Keep me close / Safe and sound.”
Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler collaborated on the script. The song was also produced by Göransson. Interestingly, Rihanna has also written this original song herself.
The song has a simple melody with subtle chords that complement Rihanna’s soulful vocal harmonies.
The Statement Given by the Tems

In a recent press release, Tems stated, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his vision for the film and song, I wanted to write something that depicted a warm embrace from all the people I’d lost in my life.” “I tried to imagine what it would be like to be able to sing to them right now and express how much I miss them,” Tems said in a statement. “Rihanna has always been an inspiration to me, so hearing her perform this song is a huge honor.”
