National Unity Day is celebrated on 31 October every year. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Indian freedom fighter and ‘Iron Man of India’ and also the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India was born. He played the role of merging 565 princely states into the Union of India, and this year it is the 146th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
National Unity Day 2022
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is also known as the ‘Iron Man of India’ due to his many efforts to maintain the unity of the country. To honor the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, many programs are organized every year on the 31st of October at different places. In the year 2014, the Government of India decided to celebrate the birth of Sardar Patel as National Unity Day on 31st October.
The Significance
On National Unity Day, an oath is taken by all government officials “I solemnly swear that I dedicate myself to uphold the unity, integrity, and security of the country and share the spirit of this unity with my fellow countrymen. I also try to spread it among the people. I also take a pledge to make my contribution to maintain the internal security of my country.
