A major road accident took place in North Sikkim. Here in North Sikkim near the India-China border, the soldiers’ car slipped off the road and fell into the ditch. Due to which 16 army soldiers were killed and four others were injured.
According to media reports, the injured jawans have been airlifted to a military hospital in North Bengal. It is being told that this big tragic accident happened at around 8 in the morning.
The vehicle was going to the checkpoints
Let us tell you that the army’s crashed vehicle was taking 20 soldiers to the border posts. There, at a turn in Gema area, suddenly the balance of the vehicle deteriorates and it falls down hundreds of feet.
The Army said in its statement, “The ill-fated vehicle was part of a 3-vehicle convoy that had moved from Chatten in the morning towards Thangu. En route at Zema, the truck skidded down a steep slope while negotiating a sharp turn. A rescue mission was immediately launched and 4 injured soldiers air evacuated, said the Indian Army.”
“Unfortunately, three Junior Commissioned Officers and 13 soldiers succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident. Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved families, at this hour of loss,” it said.
All Soldiers Dead Bodies Recovered
The bodies of all the 16 army personnel have been recovered. All 4 military personnel have been sent to the hospital for treatment at the scene. At the same time, the dead soldiers are being taken to the Government STNM Hospital in Gangtok for postmortem and later will be handed over to the army.
