How International Men’s Day Started
In 1923, some men demanded that International Women’s Day be celebrated on 23 February. After this, in 1968, American journalist John P. Harris wrote an article saying that there is a lack of balance in the Soviet system. This system celebrates international day for women but does not celebrate any kind of day for men. After this, on 19 November 1999, International Men’s Day was celebrated for the first time by the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
International Men’s Day is celebrated every year on 19 November in more than 60 countries around the world. The main objectives behind celebrating International Men’s Day are the mental health of men, appreciation of positive qualities of masculinity, mainstreaming of male role models present in society, gender equality, etc. International Men’s Day was celebrated in India for the first time in 2007 on 19 November.
