  • President Draupadi Murmu Paid Her Tribute To Elizabeth II

President Droupadi Murmu visited Westminster Hall London where the body of Queen Elizabeth II is lying in state and offered condolences on behalf of the Indian government.

The President is on an official tour to the United Kingdom from September 17-19, to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday and offer condolences on behalf of the Government of India.

She arrived at Gatwick Airport in London to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral at London’s Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

The presidential aircraft carrying Murmu and her entourage members landed at London’s Gatwick Airport from where she left for the hotel where she stayed during this tour.

On her arrival at the airport, the president was sent to the United Kingdom by the High Commissioner of India.

According to official reports, President Murmu will further attend a reception hosted by King Charles III for the overseas leaders at Buckingham Palace in London before the funeral service on Monday at 11 am local time.

The next day, she attended the state funeral service at West Gate of Westminster Abbey. And in the afternoon, she attended the reception hosted by James Cleverly, UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.

Queen Elizabeth II, 96, the former head of state of the UK and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations passed away on September 8. She was laid to rest with full state honors at Westminster Abbey in September.

Amitabh Bachhan took to his blog and wrote, “.. and as we live another day, the life of another has ended .. the Queen has passed away .. the Queen of England .. and a host of moments and memories go along with her and her presence.”

Mamata Banerjee

Mamta Banerjee tweeted, “I express my condolences to the British royal family and the people of the United Kingdom on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”  

“An era comes to an end as the longest reigning British monarch leaves for her heavenly abode,” Banerjee said. Buckingham Palace announced in a statement Thursday, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”
