India Set to Become Tesla’s First Non-European Market for New ‘Most Affordable’ Electric Car!

According to recent reports, India is poised to be the initial non-European destination and the second market for Tesla’s upcoming two-door electric vehicle (EV), touted as the company’s’most affordable’ offering. The EV, likely to be a sedan or an SUV, is scheduled to debut globally in Germany.

The Moneycontrol report reveals that Tesla has designated its German facility for the production of this affordable car, anticipating substantial demand from the Indian market. While the model remains unnamed, it is expected to initially follow the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route, with imported kits from Germany undergoing significant localization in India, according to an informed source.

Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg represents the company’s inaugural manufacturing facility in Europe. The aforementioned source revealed that the estimated cost of the prospective EV is expected to be 25,000 euros, which is more than ₹20 lakh.Notably, Tesla currently manufactures its Model Y crossover at the same German plant.

If the developments materialize, this ‘most affordable car’ will mark Tesla’s second EV foray into the Indian market, following the Model Y, as previously reported by Moneycontrol. Tesla is reportedly finalizing an agreement with the Indian government to initiate its operations in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussions with business leaders, including Elon Musk, during his state visit to the United States in June, suggest progress in fostering ties between Tesla and India.
