Started Her Career By Singing In The Nightclub
Usha started her career by singing in hotels. She then played as a vocalist in nightclubs such as Mumbai’s Talk of the Town and Kolkata’s Trincas. Usha’s film career started like a film. Usha was singing at a party in Delhi when Shashi Kapoor caught sight of her and got impressed by her voice, Shashi Kapoor offered her to sing songs in films. Usha Uthup made her debut in a film with the song ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. After this, Usha Uthup sang a popular song with Asha Bhosle, which was named Dum Maaro Dum. The English lines of this song were sung by Usha Uthup and since then Bollywood started noticing her.

Since childhood, Usha Ji has been in a musical environment, so she has a serious musical understanding. She gave her first stage performance in 1969 at the age of nine in Chennai. At present, Usha Ji lives in Kolkata with her family. She is survived by her husband Johnny Uthup, their son Sunny and daughter Anjali.
Usha Ji had a good jugalbandi with RD Burman and Bappi Lahiri. Usha Ji has sung most of her songs with them. Apart from this, she made a lot of headlines with the song ‘Darling’ sung with Rekha Bhardwaj in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film Saat Khoon Maaf.
