Tanakpur is not a hill station. It is a city and a municipal board in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand state of India. Located in the plains area in the northern part of India. The town is the gateway for Purnagiri Temple as well as the ‘Gateway to the Kumaon Himalayas’. Tanakpur is located on the banks of the Sarda River and adjacent to the Nepal border. It is the last plain area on the road to the Kumaon zone of Uttarakhand and acts as a junction for the Kumaon District’s mountainous part.
Patal Bhuvneshwar is an ancient cave temple where you need to rappel down to 90 ft to reach the caves. It is located in the village of Bhubneshwar. Legend and folklore have it that this cave enshrines Lord Shiva and thirty-three Koti demigods [33 types and not crore]. The cave is 160 m long and 90 feet deep from the point of entrance. Limestone rock formations have created various spectacular stalactite and stalagmite figures of various hues and forms. This cave has a narrow tunnel-like opening that leads to several caves. The cave is fully electrically illuminated. Built by the flow of water, Patal Bhuvaneshwar is not just one cave, but rather a series of caves within caves

Naukuchiatal is a beautiful place situated just about 27 km up, from the Nainital district of Kumaon, Uttarakhand, India. Naukuchiatal or “lake of nine corners” is a small hill station. The lake is 175 feet deep and is situated at 1,220 meters above sea level. It is covered in trees and shrubs. It is the deepest of all the lakes in the Nainital region.
