Because Anil Kapoor was already famous, Annu Kapoor was forced to alter his name: “He was a hero, I was zero.”

Anil Kapoor’s longtime collaborator Annu Kapoor remembers the reason behind his name change from Anil to Annu.
As a ‘zero’ while Anil Kapoor was a hero, Annu Kapoor has said that he was forced to make a compromise and alter his name to Annu. In a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Annu remembered the time he first entered the movie business and had to switch his screen name to his pet name. His family used to call him Annu, therefore even though he was born Anil Kapoor, that nickname eventually became his screen name.

Reasons behind Annu’s name change
When asked if Anil Kapoor was the reason he had to change his name, Annu responded to the Hindi newspaper, “I moved to Mumbai in 1984 and Anil Kapoor was already a star by that time. He was born in December of 1965, whereas I was born in February. However, none of that actually matters. He is now a hero, and I am nothing. One who is zero must make accommodations.

Anuradha, Anil, Anupam, Anees, and Anwar are names that are frequently shortened to Annu in India, according to Annu. Thus, Annu—the name my family and I both use—became my online name. I am appreciative of what Annu Kapoor has done for me. I have consistently given my all. By the way, I have never met Anil Kapoor. Waise, Anil ji se mera koi milna julna nahi hai.

The passion of Annu Kapoor is not acting.
Annu was asked in the interview if he has ever considered giving up acting. Realistically responding, he told the newspaper that he had never considered that way because beggars cannot be picky. He needed to care for his wife and three children. Farmers like him do not have the luxury of thinking such thoughts, he continued, only wealthy people can. He continued by saying that acting is neither his hobby nor his passion.
