ASI’s Remarkable Archaeological Discovery In MP: Archaeologists found 26 New Temples, 26 Caves, and 2 Monasteries in Madhya Pradesh!

More than 26 temples, 26 caves, 2 monasteries, 2 votive stupas, 24 inscriptions, 46 sculptures, scattered remains, and 19 water structures were recorded. The exploration covered the period of Raja Bhimsen, Maharaja Pothasiri, and Maharaja Bhattadeva. The places in the inscriptions are Kaushami, Mathura, Pavata (mountain), Vejbarda, and Saptanarayika.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has covered about 170 sq km area falling in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in months of field exploration, a feat which was done for the first time since 1938. By whom was the entire exploration expedition calculated? In ASI’s Jabalpur Circle exploration, more than 26 temples, 26 caves, 2 monasteries,46 sculptures, 24 inscriptions, 2 votive stupas, other scattered remains, and 19 water structures were recorded. Many rare chaitya-shaped doors, coins, etc. have also been found.

G Kishan Reddy, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of the North Eastern Region shared pictures of the structures discovered by the ASI team on Twitter. “In Bandhavgarh Forest Reserve, remarkable archaeological remains have been unearthed. 26 temples, 26 caves, 2 monasteries, 2 votive stupas, 24 inscriptions, 46 idols, other scattered remains, and 19 water structures have been recorded here. Varaha is one of them. The biggest,” he wrote.

The exploration covered the time period of Raja Bhimsen, Maharaja Pothasiri, and Maharaja Bhattadeva. The places mentioned in the inscriptions are Kaushmi, Mathura, Pavata (mountain), Vejbarda, and Saptanairika. The exercise also pointed out that the Gupta period remains such as door frames, in addition to 26 ancient temples/relics of the Kalachuri period, i.e. 9th-11th centuries AD.
